When Should You Call Us?
Not every dental concern is an emergency — but some problems should not wait. If you're not sure whether yours counts, that's exactly what the phone call is for — we'd rather talk it through with you than have you sit on something that needs attention. Call us as early as possible during office hours if you are experiencing any of the following:
- Severe or worsening tooth pain
- Pain that wakes you up at night
- Swelling in your gums, jaw, or face
- A broken, chipped, or knocked-out tooth
- A lost filling or crown that is causing pain
- A dental abscess or visible bump on the gum
- Bleeding that will not stop
- Trauma to the mouth or teeth

What to Do While You Wait
While you are waiting for your appointment, there are a few things that can help:
- Rinse gently with warm salt water
- Apply a cold pack to the outside of your face if there is swelling — 20 minutes on, 20 off
- Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed (ibuprofen or acetaminophen)
- Do not put aspirin directly on the tooth or gum
- If a crown came off, bring it with you — do not try to glue it back yourself
- Avoid chewing on the affected side
⚠️ If you have difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, or swelling that is spreading rapidly, do not wait for a dental appointment. Go to your nearest emergency room or call 911 immediately.

We are not a 24-hour emergency dental office. If you are experiencing a dental emergency outside of our office hours, we recommend contacting an urgent care facility or going to your nearest emergency room for severe pain, swelling, or trauma. Call us first thing when we open and we will do our best to see you that day.

We reserve time in our schedule for same-day urgent care. Monday through Thursday, 7:45 AM to 5:00 PM. The sooner you call, the sooner we can get you seen.
Severe pain, swelling, a knocked-out tooth, a broken tooth with exposed nerve, a lost crown, or anything that is getting rapidly worse. When in doubt, call — we'll help you figure out how urgently you need to be seen.

Facial swelling from a dental source can indicate a spreading infection. If it is affecting your ability to breathe or swallow, go to the ER immediately. For significant swelling without airway involvement, call us right away — we will get you in same-day.
Yes. Dental infections can spread to surrounding bone, the jaw, and in serious cases beyond. This is not common but it is a real risk with untreated abscesses. Don't wait on a swollen, painful tooth.
Not usually, but call us within a day or two. In the meantime, drugstore dental cement like Dentemp can temporarily reseat a crown until you can get in. Do not use super glue.
Don't panic — a crown that comes off intact can usually be recemented. Find the crown and rinse it gently. If the tooth underneath isn't painful, use Dentemp (available at Walgreens, CVS, or most drugstores) to temporarily reseat it yourself until you can get in. Press the crown firmly onto the tooth, bite down gently to seat it, and wipe away any excess. Do not use super glue — it can damage the crown and make proper recementation difficult or impossible. Call us to schedule within a day or two. If the tooth is painful or sensitive, come in sooner.
