Dental emergencies don't follow a schedule. They happen on a Tuesday morning when you have a full day of work ahead, or on a Friday afternoon when you're not sure who to call. Here's what you need to know about getting same-day dental care in Mobile — and why calling sooner rather than later almost always leads to a better outcome.
We See Emergency Patients Same Day
When you call Rabbit Creek Dental with a dental emergency, we do everything we can to get you in the same day. Our team knows that tooth pain, infections, and broken teeth are urgent — not something to put off until next week. Call (251) 308-0584 first thing in the morning for the best chance of a same-day appointment. The earlier you call, the more flexibility we have.
What Counts as a Dental Emergency?
Call us immediately for: severe toothache or tooth pain that won't go away; swelling in your face, jaw, or gums — especially if it's spreading; dental abscess (a painful bump on the gum, often with a bad taste); broken, chipped, or cracked tooth — especially if it's sharp or painful; knocked-out tooth (time is critical — call immediately); lost crown or filling leaving a sensitive or sharp tooth; bleeding that won't stop after a tooth injury; tooth infection with fever.
A note on swelling: Facial swelling from a dental infection can become serious quickly. If swelling is spreading toward your eye or throat, or if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, go to the emergency room. Those are signs the infection may be spreading beyond what dental treatment alone can address immediately.
What Happens at an Emergency Visit
When you come in for an emergency appointment, we focus on two things: finding out what's causing the problem and relieving your pain as quickly as possible. We'll take X-rays, assess the tooth and surrounding tissue, and talk through your options. Sometimes the fix is straightforward — a prescription, a temporary restoration, or same-day treatment. Sometimes the tooth needs more work that we'll schedule right away. We don't make you wait weeks to address an urgent problem.
Walk-In Patients
We do our best to accommodate walk-in emergency patients, but calling ahead is always better. It lets us prepare and ensures you're not waiting longer than necessary. If you're in pain right now, call (251) 308-0584 — even if you've never been a patient here before. New patients are always welcome for urgent dental care.
What About After Hours?
Our regular hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:45 AM to 5:00 PM. If you have a dental emergency outside those hours: call our number — the voicemail provides guidance for after-hours situations; for severe swelling, spreading infection, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or uncontrolled bleeding — go to the nearest emergency room; for a knocked-out tooth — try to keep it moist (in milk or between your cheek and gum) and get to an emergency room or urgent care dentist.
Don't Wait It Out
This is the most important thing we can tell you about dental emergencies: waiting almost always makes it worse. A toothache that seems manageable today can turn into an abscess tomorrow. An abscess that's ignored can spread. A cracked tooth that's uncomfortable can split completely if you keep chewing on it. Call us. Even if you're not sure it's an emergency. We'd rather tell you it can wait than have you wait when it can't.
